T-SGLI Information Effective December 1, 2005, servicemembers insured under the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance Program (SGLI) will also automatically be covered by a Traumatic Injury Protection Insurance Program (T-SGLI) with a flat rate premium of $1.00 per month regardless of SGLI coverage level. The T-SGLI program and the mandatory $1.00 premium were established by Public Law (PL) 109-13, enacted May 11, 2005. T-SGLI is not available independently, i.e., a member not insured under SGLI is also not insurable under T-SGLI. T-SGLI provide payments ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 to severely injured servicemembers during their recovery period from a serious traumatic injury. The retroactive provision of PL 109-13 is provided to any member who suffered a qualifying loss as a direct result of injuries incurred in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) or Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) during the period of October 7, 2001 and December 1, 2005.
