Division of Commissioned Corps Assignments
(DCCA)
DCCA is responsible for a variety of areas related to appointments to the Corps and assignments within the Corps. These include:

  • Process applications from those interested in serving with the PHS Commissioned Corps and implementing the appointment standards for the PHS.

  • Coordinate appointment and assignment of Inactive Reserve Corps officers with the Office of Reserve Affairs (ORA) in the Office of the Surgeon General.

  • Review and prepare all officer personnel actions (except pay and retirement), including:
    • call to duty;
    • inter-service transfers;
    • PHS transfers;
    • billet changes; 
    • correction/amendments to orders.

  • Maintain the billet management system.

  • Provide information and support to each category via interactions with Chief Professional Officers, Professional Advisory Committee Chairs and members, and the various HHS OPDivs and other agencies to which Commissioned Corps officers are assigned.

  • Implement category management concepts. Category management is the overall principle and goal for the Division. Category management is intended to include aspects of career assignments and retention.
