Division of Commissioned Corps Training and Career Development

DCCTCD

The mission of DCCTCD is to establish, maintain, and administer programs that provide meaningful training for new and experienced officers, and to aid those officers in the development of their careers, so that the mission of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (Corps) can be met. The Division has three major areas of responsibility:

  • The Commissioned Officer Training Academy (training directorate) mission is to train and inspire commissioned officers to lead by example, promote Corps values, and protect the Nation’s health.

  • The Career Development directorate’s mission is to provide unique “Corps Officer” expertise and guidance for the development, performance, and progression of Corps officers throughout their careers, as they serve to meet the mission of the Corps.

  • The Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program (COSTEP) directorate’s mission is to provide COSTEP applicants with information on all of the programs available within the PHS and maintain an efficient method of supplying information to the local personnel officers for the placement of COSTEP applicants, and to be forward-looking and capable of responding to changing directions within the PHS and the Federal Government as we introduce student externs to the Corps.
