It is highly recommended that an officer who is not promoted do the following:
  • Review the comments and recommendations provided by the members of the Promotion Board in the score sheet found in the Confidential Document section of the officer’s online eOPF
  • Compare the officer’s ranking and precept scores with those of officers promoted (available under "Promotion results" section of the Promotion Information Web site).
  • Schedule a meeting with the officer’s supervisor to discuss work plans, expectations, and performance.
  • Work through the officer’s chain of command and with the Commissioned Corps Liaison to discuss the Reviewing Official Statement.
  • Arrange for discussion with Chief Professional Officer (CPO), Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) Chairperson and/or a mentor to discuss issues specific to officer's category. Identify areas that an officer can demonstrate a sustained level of performance to be as competitive as possible in the next promotion board.
  •
  • Ensure the officer’s eOPF and PIR are accurate.
  • Be aware of the visual presentation of documents within the officer’s eOPF. It’s helpful if they are appealing to the eye; beware of small font. More information isn’t necessarily better; it can be overwhelming to the board members.
  • Review the officer’s category specific benchmarks.
  • Seek mentoring/career counseling from a senior officer in the officer’s category.
