TO: Commissioned Officers of the U.S. Public Health Service
FROM: Acting Surgeon General
SUBJECT: Suspension of the 2009 Regular Corps Assimilation Boards

Due to the present Regular Corps size authorization and anticipated number of Regular Corps nominations available next year, the 2009 Regular Corps Assimilation Boards have been temporarily suspended.

Officers may continue to make application to the Regular Corps under current policy until 1 February 2009. Applications received by the Office of Commissioned Corps Operations after the deadline will be returned to the officer. Qualified applications accepted will remain in the application pool in the event of a future board.

Officers will be notified when the next assimilation board will be convened to consider candidates. However, officers should be aware that any Regular Corps Assimilation Program policy changes may necessitate operational changes in order to manage candidate applications and future boards. Meanwhile, officers should remain attentive to Commissioned Corps E-Bulletin articles, list-serve messages, and/or Professional Advisory Committee announcements concerning the Regular Corps Assimilation Program.
