American Indian/Alaska Native Commissioned Officer Advisory Committee Listserv

January 1 marked the beginning of a new year for the American Indian/Alaska Native Commissioned Officer Advisory Committee (AI/ANCOAC). This committee provides advice and consultation to the Surgeon General on issues relating to the professional practice and personnel activities of American Indian/Alaska Native officers in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps). AI/ANCOAC is composed of both Corps officers and civil service members who represent numerous professional disciplines as well as the Operating Divisions, Staff Divisions, and non-Department of Health and Human Services organizations to which Corps officers are assigned.

In an effort to improve communication between AI/AN officers and the committee, a Listserv sponsored by the National Institutes of Health has been created. All AI/AN Corps officers are encouraged to join, as several new initiatives have been identified for the upcoming year.

In addition, the Mentoring and Career Development Subcommittee would like assistance in identifying those issues of concern among AI/AN officers. A short one-page survey is in the development stages and it is hoped that the Listserv can be used as the means for distribution. Input from the AI/AN membership would greatly assist the committee in focusing its efforts. Also, the Advisory Committee would really like to routinely disseminate information to the membership, particularly to new call to active duty members. In short, please consider subscribing to the AI/ANCOC Listserv by going to the following Web site: https://list.nih.gov/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=aianco-l&A=1
