APAOC Call for Nominations for the 2007 Annual RADM Samuel Lin Award and Junior Officer Award

The Asian Pacific American Officers Committee (APAOC) is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2007 RADM Samuel Lin Award and Junior Officer Award. These awards have been developed to promote the future leadership of Asian Pacific Americans by honoring members of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) or equivalent civil service professionals in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the Nation’s health. 
The nomination documents must be submitted online through the APAOC Web site. To submit a nomination, please visit APAOC’s Web site at http://www.usphs-apaoc.org and click on “Award Nomination Form.” Nominations must include the following:

(1) Narrative that describes the following:

  • The nominee’s contribution to the advancement of the Nation’s public health (the nomination should address the impact of the nominee's work);
  • The leadership of the nominee in the work being cited (e.g., providing vision or direction; developing an innovative approach; initiating significant activities; pursuing ongoing professional development; mentoring; etc.); and
  • Involvement of the nominee in health-related professional or community activities.

(2) Current curriculum vitae of nominee.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Nominations will be accepted through 2 March 2007. The awards will be presented in June in Cincinnati, OH, at the 2007 USPHS Scientific and Training Symposium (formerly the USPHS Professional Conference) sponsored by the Commissioned Officers Foundation (http://www.coausphsconference.org).
The APAOC awards are open to both Corps officers and HHS civil service professionals. The RADM Samuel Lin Award is for senior officers O-5 and above, and the Junior Officer Award is for officers O-4 and below. Nominations may come from a supervisor, professional colleague, or anyone who through a professional working relationship can attest to the impact of the nominee’s contribution to the advancement of public health. Self-nominations will not be accepted, and current APAOC voting members are not eligible for these awards.
