Dental Care Reminder
Submitted by CAPT Michael C. Arnold, USPHS, Director, Commissioned Officers Dental Clinic, National Institutes of Health
No matter what your age or rank, a healthy smile is something all officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) should strive to attain and maintain. Proper oral hygiene and a nutritious diet play a key role in keeping your teeth healthy. Start by avoiding sugary foods and limiting in between meal snacks. Also, eat a well balanced diet, and avoid all tobacco products. Don’t forget to floss at least once daily and brush at least twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste. Be sure to routinely visit the dentist for check-ups and professional cleanings. By taking an active roll in your oral health, you are helping to insure you keep your teeth for a lifetime.
Active duty Corps officers stationed outside the Washington, DC metropolitan area may seek dental care from a private sector dentist of their choice or any Federal Dental Clinic (Indian Health Service, military or Department of Veterans Affairs facility), if space is available. When seeking private sector care, all claims/predeterminations, and written inquiries should be sent to:
