Environmental Health Officer PAC Membership – Call for Nominations
Deadline Date: 14 August 2006

The Environmental Health Officer Professional Advisory Committee (EHOPAC) is currently seeking motivated Environmental Health Officers (EHO) of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) civil service employees who are interested in serving as members of this committee. The EHOPAC provides advice and consultation to the Chief EHO and the category on matters relating to professional activities and personnel issues affecting officers. Members represent a diverse cross-section within the HHS Operating Divisions (OPDIVs), Staff Divisions (STAFFDIVs), and non-HHS organizations to which Corps officers are assigned.

The EHOPAC is currently accepting nominations for membership for 2007. Members are elected for a 3-year term and may serve a maximum of two terms. The election for new members will be conducted at the fall 2006 EHOPAC meeting. The Chief EHO will recommend successful candidates to the Surgeon General for appointment with the concurrence of the direct supervisors and OPDIV, STAFFDIV, and non-HHS organization representatives.

Expectations of an EHOPAC member:
  • The EHOPAC meets in person four times per year and members may occasionally teleconference in for meetings; however, travel is required for membership.
  • Travel and attendance to meetings is mandatory with full OPDIV, STAFFDIV, or non-HHS organization funding support. Exceptions are dealt with on an individual basis.
  • Members are expected to actively Chair a minimum of one subcommittee during term of service.
  • Supervisor and OPDIV, STAFFDIV, or non-HHS organization must support attendance and participation in the EHOPAC during the entire term.
Openings will be available for members representing the Indian Health Service, Environmental Protection Agency, Program Support Center, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (one per OPDIV/non-HHS organization). Commissioned officers and HHS civil service employees who have already submitted a nomination within the past 3 years do not need to send in another nomination unless their supervisor or program manager has changed since the original submission. However, all officers must submit a current curriculum vitae (CV) in order to be considered. Nomination forms may be downloaded directly from the EHOPAC Web site at http://ehopac.org/index.cfm?fa=getinvolved.

The endorsed nomination form and electronic CV must be sent via e-mail (preferred), postmarked or faxed no later than 14 August 2006. Individuals should submit their complete nomination package to:
