Additional Educational Benefits Under the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)
The Division of Commissioned Corps Officer Support (DCCOS), Office of Commissioned Corps Operations, would like to remind those officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service who are participating in the Montgomery GI Bill, that they are eligible to purchase additional MGIB educational benefits.
Officers can increase the amount of their monthly full-time benefit by $1 for every $4 that they contribute, up to a maximum contribution amount of $600. A contribution of $600 maximum will increase the full-time monthly benefit by $150 per month ($600 divided by 4 = $150). Additional information is available on the ‘Cover Memo’ at http://dcp.psc.gov/PDF_docs/phs-7039.pdf
To purchase the additional MGIB educational benefits, officers must complete form PHS-7039, “Application for Allotment of Pay (for Additional Montgomery GI Bill Benefits),” at http://dcp.psc.gov/PDF_docs/phs-7039.pdf and DD Form 2366, “Montgomery GI Bill Act of 1984 (MGIB),” at www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/formsprogram.htm.
If you have any questions after reviewing the ‘Cover Memo’ on the Web site, please contact DCCOS at 240-453-6034 or Norman.chichester@hhs.gov
