JOAG Voting Membership - Call for Nominations
Deadline Date: 14 April 2006

The Junior Officer Advisory Group (JOAG) is seeking motivated, hard-working junior officers to fill positions vacated due to the expiration of term of voting members. JOAG is composed of officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) at the rank of Temporary O-4 and below. The mission of JOAG is to provide advice and consultation to the Surgeon General, Chief Professional Officers (CPOs), Professional Advisory Committees, and other Corps groups on issues of professional practice and personnel activities affecting junior officers in the Corps.

Three basic criteria are required for eligibility. Officers applying:
  • Must have a rank of Temporary O-4 and below;
  • Must meet the Basic level of force readiness; and
  • Must not be eligible for O-5 until the 2008 Promotion Cycle.
We will have open seats in the following categories: Dental (1); Engineer (1); Health Services Officer (3); Pharmacy (1); Medical (1); and Therapy (1). However, officers wishing to apply who are in categories without openings may apply for the open at-large position, which can be filled by a junior officer in any category.

JOAG meets monthly via teleconference; travel is not mandatory for membership. Officers must be willing to actively lead and/or participate on various committees, and regular attendance at meetings is mandatory throughout the term of membership. All new appointments will be made for a 2-year term, and self-nominations are encouraged. Because monthly meetings occur during normal duty hours and a commitment of time is required, officers must have supervisor approval to apply. Following CPO and agency endorsement of the selected nominees, JOAG will recommend successful candidates to the Surgeon General for appointment.

Any current JOAG voting member whose term expires in 2006 must resubmit all application materials in order to be considered for a second term.

Interested individuals may find all relevant nomination materials, as well as additional information, at the JOAG Web site: http://www.joag.org

Applicants should send to the JOAG Membership Chair the following documents:
  • membership profile form
  • supervisor approval form
  • current curriculum vitae
  • cover letter stating interest in serving on JOAG and how their experience and abilities will benefit JOAG
All nominations must be submitted on or before 14 April 2006 to:
