MTPAG Junior Officer of the Year – Call for Nominations

The Medical Technologist Professional Advisory Group (MTPAG) established the MTPAG Junior Officer of the Year Award in 2006. It is presented to a Medical Technologist (MT) in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) who is recognized for outstanding leadership, exceptional clinical contributions, and/or exemplary service and accomplishments, which positively impact the Commissioned Corps and the medical technology profession. The award will be presented at the Commissioned Officers Association’s annual meeting.
 
Eligibility

Any active-duty MT commissioned officer, O-4 and below, may self-nominate or be nominated. One nominee will be chosen each year for the MTPAG Junior Officer of the Year Award. Members of the MTPAG are not eligible. All nominees must have a minimum of 1 year of active-duty service with the Corps.
 
Award Criteria

Each recipient shall demonstrate one or more of the following activities (or activity) during a current tour of active duty with the Corps, which exhibits a positive impact on the MT profession and the Corps. Activities and accomplishments in prior tours, with prior services, or as a civilian do not qualify.
  1. Outstanding, unquestionable leadership in the Corps, including but not limited to, mentoring and impact with fellow MTs.
  2. Clinical excellence evidenced by quality work, improved outcomes with demonstrated and documented impact to patients.
  3. The application of unique skills or creativity in the approach or solution of a situation(s).
  4. Contribution or accomplishment, which notably impacts and improves public health.
  5. Professional contributions significant to a Division, Bureau, Agency, community, State, region, or the Nation.
  6. Courage and integrity in hazardous, austere, or emergency environments.
 
All nominees must meet the Basic level of force readiness.
 
Nomination Procedure
  1. The MTPAG may nominate an eligible officer.
  2. Professional colleagues may nominate an eligible officer.
  3. Self-nominations will be accepted.
  4. All nominations for 2006 must be received by midnight on 11 April 2006.
  5. Completed nomination packages are to be submitted to the MTPAG Awards Chair by e-mail to cmunger1@nc.rr.com. Incomplete packets will not be reviewed.
  6. The MTPAG Awards Subcommittee will review and rank the nominations.
  7. Nominees will be reviewed by the MTPAG and voted on for selection. The winner of the award will be invited to help select the MTPAG Junior Officer of the Year Award winner next year.
Nomination Packets Must Include:
  1. Nomination cover sheet (see below).
  2. Curriculum vitae (CV) and CV cover sheet utilizing current Health Service Officer guidelines.
  3. Narrative not to exceed two pages single-spaced with at least 1-inch margins (font size 12) that describes:
    1. The reason for nomination, area of impact, or extraordinary service (include specific information about the nominee and how his/her role exceeded normal work requirements).
    2. Career highlights and current job description.
    3. Overall contributions to the Corps.
