Minority Officers Liaison Council 2005 Awardees
 
The Minority Officers Liaison Council (MOLC) awards luncheon was held on Thursday, 9 June, at the 2005 Public Health Professional Conference in Philadelphia, PA. MOLC is grateful to Mr. Jerry Farrell and the Commissioned Officers Association for providing the Philadelphia Ballroom at the Wyndam Franklin Plaza hotel to celebrate this memorable occasion.
The council sends its warm appreciation to this year’s lead and host, the Hispanic Officers Advisory Committee, and extends warm wishes to the 2005 awardees within the four advisory groups.
 
Hispanic Officers Advisory Committee
 
The Juan Carlos Finlay Award was presented to LCDR Francisco Alvarado-Ramy, Medical Officer, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for significant achievements and accomplishments in strengthening the public health system in Puerto Rico and promoting the health and well being of millions of Hispanics.
 
Black Commissioned Officers Advisory Group
 
The Hildrus A. Poindexter Award was presented to CDR Michelle E. Poindexter, Nurse Officer, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), for the work she performed to bring awareness of Sickle Cell Anemia, a disease primarily affecting African Americans, to the staff of CMS.
 
The George Ignatius Lythcott Award was presented to LCDR Anita E. Pollard, Nurse Officer, CMS, for her sustained contributions to the Survey Branch, Region 1. Her unique skills in the area of psychiatric nursing have led to her involvement with the survey and decertification and recertification of Vermont State Hospital and the elevation of the quality of care offered to its patients.
 
The Retired Officer Recognition Award was presented to CAPT Curtis A. Golden, USPHS, (Ret.), Environmental Health Officer, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). His last assignment prior to retiring was with the Chicago Regional Office, Pesticide Branch, EPA. He received the award for assisting numerous African Americans in the environmental health field and aiding his Alma Mater, Benedict College, Columbia, SC, to become only the second Historically Black College and University in the United States with a fully accredited environmental health program.
 
American Indian/Alaskan Native Commissioned Officers Advisory Committee
 
The Leadership Award was presented to CDR Kathy A. Holcroft, Nurse Officer, Oklahoma Area Office, Indian Health Service (IHS), for her exemplary leadership qualities through nursing.
 
The Annie Dodge Wauneka Award was presented to LCDR Brian R. Wren, Pharmacist, Oklahoma Area Office, IHS, for dedicated service and outstanding contributions toward significantly reducing cardiovascular risk and improving patient care services.
 
The Senior Officer Award was presented to CDR Richard S. Harris, Medical officer, Oklahoma Area Office, IHS, for outstanding performance as a clinical champion in the planning and implementation of the IHS Electronic Health Record system at Carnegie Indian Health Center.
 
The Junior Officer Award was presented to LCDR Amy L. Holder, Health Services Officer, Oklahoma Area Office, IHS for significant contributions fostering the goals of the U.S. Public Health Service and enhancing dental health care of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
 
Asian Pacific American Officers Committee (APAOC)
 
The RADM Samuel Lin Award was presented to CDR Christine Heng, Dental Officer, Health Resources and Services Administration, for exemplary leadership as an officer; outstanding clinical, administrative, academical achievements; and exceptional contributions to the mission of APAOC.
 
The Junior Officer Award was presented to LT Cheryl Lynn Fajardo, Health Services Officer, Office of the Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services, for leadership and outstanding service in public health; community development and health education; mentoring and support; and for significant contributions to the advancement of the health and welfare of the Asian Pacific American Community.
