Camp Lejeune
 
Dentists of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) are again deploying to Camp Lejeune, NC. They will provide dental services to the Second Marine Expeditionary Force for deployment to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom III. The Camp Lejeune facility is severely understaffed with the current deployment of 10 dental officers and 33 dental technicians and the upcoming deployment of an additional 12 dentists and 22 dental technicians. Corps dentists will provide care for a 5-month period that began 25 April and will end on 1 October.
 
Organization of American States General Assembly and the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals
 
The Organization of American States General Assembly, which is a Level 1 event, will be held 5-7 June in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In addition, the NBA Finals, which are a Level 2 event, will occur during the first of June. For theses events, 20 Corps officers will be on-call from 1-15 June in the event that they are needed to staff a Secretary’s Emergency Response Team and an Incident Management Team.
 
Training
 
The Office of Force Readiness and Deployment (OFRD) offers a Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers recertification course once a month in the Tower Building, Rockville, MD. Seats are available for local officers for the August and September courses. Please see http://ccrf.hhs.gov/ccrf/ccrf_bls_form.htm for course information and sign-up.
 
OFRD will offer its second Mental Health Disaster Response Training for mental healthcare providers, 25-29 July in Rockville, MD.
 
Three Corps officers attended the Medical Management of Chemical and Biological Casualties Course held 15-20 May at Ft. Detrick, MD, and Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. This course gave Corps officers hand-on experience treating patients in chemical and biological combat situations.
