Call for Nominations for 2006 PAPAG Award

The Physician Assistant Professional Advisory Group (PAPAG) of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) is seeking nominations for the PAPAG Physician Assistant of the Year Award. This award is presented to Corps Physician Assistants who are recognized for outstanding leadership, exceptional clinical contributions, and/or exemplary service and accomplishments which positively impact the Corps and the Physician Assistant profession. The 2006 award will be presented at the Commissioned Officers Association’s U.S. Public Health Service Professional Conference to be held in Denver, CO, in May. Listed below are eligibility requirements, description, and evaluation criteria for the award.
 
To be eligible for this award:
 
Any active-duty Corps Physician Assistant may be nominated. One nominee will be chosen each year for the PAPAG Physician Assistant of the Year Award. Voting members of the PAPAG are not eligible.
 
The criteria for this award:
 
Each recipient shall demonstrate one or more of the following activities (or activity) during a current tour of active duty with the Corps. Activities and accomplishments in prior tours, with prior Services, or as a civilian, do not qualify.
 
  1. Outstanding, unquestionable leadership in the Corps including but not limited to mentoring and impact with fellow Physician Assistants.
  2. Clinical excellence evidenced by quality work; improved outcomes with demonstrated and documented impact for patients.
  3. The application of unique skills or creativity in the approach or solution of a situation(s).
  4. Contribution or accomplishment which notability impacts and improves public health.
  5. Professional contributions significant to a division, bureau, agency, community, state, region, or nation.
  6. Courage and integrity in hazardous, austere, or emergency environments.
How to nominate:
 
  1. The PAPAG may nominate an eligible officer.
  2. Any Department of Health and Human Services employee may nominate an eligible officer.
  3. Professional colleagues may nominate an eligible officer.
  4. Officers may not self nominate.
  5. All nomination packages must be received annually by 1 March. Refer to the Health Services Professional Advisory Committee’s Web site (http://usphs-hso.org) to download award criteria and the complete nomination package.
  6. Nomination packages are to be submitted to the PAPAG Vice Chair or Awards Chair by e-mail. Incomplete packets will not be reviewed.
Please note that all nominees must meet Basic readiness standards.
 
Nomination Packets must include:
 
  1. Nomination cover sheet.
  2. Curriculum vitae (CV) and CV Cover sheet- Utilizing current Health Services category guidelines.
  3. Narrative not to exceed two pages single-spaced with at least 1-inch margins (font size 12) that describes:
    1. The reason for nomination, area of impact or extraordinary service (include specific information about the nominee and how his/her role exceeded normal work requirements);
    2. Career highlights and current job description; and
    3. Overall contributions to the Corps.
