Veterinary PAC Membership - Call for Nominations
Deadline Date: 15 August 2005
|
The Veterinary Professional Advisory Committee (Vet PAC) is seeking motivated commissioned corps and civil
service veterinarians who are interested in serving as members on this committee. The Vet PAC provides advice
and consultation to the Chief Veterinary Professional Officer, who provides information to the Surgeon General
on matters relating to professional activities and personnel issues affecting veterinarians. Members represent
a diverse cross-section of commissioned corps and civil service veterinarians within the Department's Operating
Divisions (OPDIVs), Staff Divisions (STAFFDIVs), and non-Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) organizations
to which U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (Corps) officers are assigned.
Each year self-nominations are sought to fill vacancies due to expiring terms. There will be seven vacancies for 2-year
term appointments beginning 1 January 2006. Members are elected by balloting by the entire veterinary category.
Officers may serve a maximum of three terms (6 years) during their Corps careers. The Chief Veterinary Professional
Officer will recommend successful candidates to the Surgeon General for appointment, with the concurrence of line
supervisors and OPDIV/STAFFDIV/non-HHS organization representatives.
The Vet PAC meets six times a year by meeting and teleconference. Travel to the meetings is encouraged but not required
for membership. Regular attendance at the meetings is expected throughout the term of membership. Vet PAC
members are expected to actively participate in the activities of at least one subcommittee during the term
of service. Some of the activities conducted by the Vet PAC include mentoring, awards, professional meeting
planning, readiness, and recruitment. Corps or civil service veterinarians who are interested are encouraged
to self-nominate. Interested individuals should obtain supervisory concurrence and submit a current curriculum
vitae and letter of interest via e-mail no later than 15 August 2005 to: DavisY@csr.nih.gov
