CDR Christopher T. Fehrman, P.E.

EPAC Career Development Subcommittee, Vice Chair

CDR Chris Fehrman is the Sanitation Facilities Construction (SFC) Director at the Indian Health Service, Alaska Area Office in Anchorage, AK. He joined Alaska’s Office of Environmental Health and Engineering in December 2018 and over the past years has enjoyed working with tribal, state, and federal partners to increase the number projects and amount of funding being awarded within Alaska for much-needed sanitation projects. He is excited and honored to lead the SFC program during a time of unprecedented funding levels available through the Infrastructure, Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the opportunity for first-service projects within unserved and underserved Alaska Native communities. He is passionate about collaboration and tribal self-determination, and believes diverse ideas present an opportunity for growth. From 2014-2018, CDR Fehrman managed the CERCLA Program at Yosemite National Park with DOI/NPS. He began his USPHS career with the IHS at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in 2008, first as a design engineer and later as a project manager, to oversee the design and construction of sanitation facilities. CDR Fehrman served with his wife, Sayward, in the U.S. Peace Corps in West Africa from 2005-2007 within the Health, Water, and Sanitation sector. His research on point-of-use biological sand filters, among other sanitation projects, helped combat the prevalence of Guinea Worm disease and improve public health within the Oti Region of Ghana.

CDR Fehrman received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in environmental engineering from Michigan Tech University from 2000-2008, the latter while enrolled in the Peace Corps Masters International program. He served as the EPAC Executive Secretary in 2016 and in various capacities with the R&R and Events Subcommittees over the years. It energizes him to recruit new blood into the Corps! CDR Fehrman is licensed as a Professional Engineer in the great state of Alaska. In his free time, values quality time with his wife and two girls – hiking, fishing, XC skiing, and travelling. His future plans include serving on mission overseas to provide sustainable development solutions for underserved and vulnerable populations.
