CDR Matthew Mergenthaler

CDR Matt Mergenthaler is an Engineer Consultant in the Project Management Branch, Division of Engineering Services Seattle, Indian Health Service Headquarters. He is responsible for providing project management oversight for Health Care Facilities and Staff Quarters Projects across Indian Health Service. He served as a COSTEP with Indian Health Service in 2006 and 2007. CDR Mergenthaler graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering and from Norwich University with a Masters of Civil Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Washington. Prior to joining the USPHS, CDR Mergenthaler worked as a Transportation Engineer for the Washington Department of Transportation. CDR Mergenthaler was commissioned as an Engineer in February 2009 at the Indian Health Service. For the first eight years of his career, he served as an Environmental Engineer/Engineer Consultant in the Clovis Field Office. He also served for four years as an Engineer Consultant responsible for project management oversight for Sanitation Facilities Projects in the Sacramento District Office.
CDR Mergenthaler served as Co-lead of two subcommittees in Recruitment and Retention Committee, Junior Officer Advisory Group from (2012-13 and 2015-17). He was also the SOP team lead for the EPAC Awards Subcommittee from 2018-2019. CDR Mergenthaler joined Applied Public Health Team 5 in 2013. He has deployed to Texas and Pennsylvania for the Unaccompanied Children Missions, and to Puerto Rico for the Hurricane Maria Recovery efforts. He loves spending time with his family and playing basketball whenever he has time.
