LCDR Travis J. Sorum, EIT                                           

EPAC Awards & Recognition Subcommittee Chair

LCDR Travis J. Sorum began his Commissioned Corps career in 2003 as an Ensign, completing a JRCOSTEP tour with Indian Health Service (IHS) Spokane District Office of Environmental Health and Engineering (OEH&E) in Spokane, WA. He completed an additional 3 JRCOSTEP tours with IHS OEH&E in Spokane (2004), Gallup, NM (2005) and Polacca, AZ (2006). LCDR Sorum came aboard full time in 2009 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant and Junior Field Engineer with the IHS OEH&E in Arcata, CA. His next duty station took him to Ukiah, CA where he served as Field Engineer and later a Senior Field Engineer/Office Manager with another IHS OEH&E unit. In November 2020, LCDR Sorum transferred to the IHS OEH&E Sacramento District Office and currently serves as the Senior Field Engineer/Deputy District Engineer. Recently, he has been tasked with serving as Sacramento District Engineer (Acting). All of his IHS OEH&E positions have involved working with Tribes on planning, design, construction management and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) consulting of/on water and wastewater utilities.

LCDR Sorum is a native of Grand Forks, ND. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. In 2007, he earned his Masters of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering also from the University of North Dakota. He has been active in the EPAC Awards Subcommittee since 2017 and the Commissioned Officers Association (COA) Legislative Affairs Committee since 2019, currently serving as Secretary. He served as the Information Subcommittee Vice Chair and Awards Subcommittee Vice Chair during the 2021 and 2022 EPAC Operational Years respectively. LCDR Sorum enjoys spending time with his wife Jena and two daughters Mira and Mena. He also enjoys skiing, art collecting, travelling and making it back to North Dakota in the fall for a good hunt.
