LT Michelle L. Holshue, BSN, RN, earned both her Bachelor’s in International Health (2007) and her BSN (2009) from theUniversity of Pennsylvania. She started her nursing career in women’s health, but fell in love with public health nursing when she worked as a home visit nurse for high-risk, low-income pregnant women in Philadelphia. In 2013, she accepted a Commission with the USPHS, fulfilling a lifelong dream to serve the U.S. in uniform. She now works as a Clinical Research Nurse at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, where she specializes in Infectious Diseases. In her current role, she cares for volunteers enrolled in 30+ clinical trials related to HIV, Hepatitis C, Influenza, Malaria and Ebola. She was recently deployed to Liberia with MMU Team 1, where she worked at the Monrovia Medical Unit providing direct patient care to health care workers infected with Ebola.
