Call for Nominations for the 2010 Annual APAOC Awards

The Asian Pacific American Officers Committee (APAOC) is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2010 RADM Samuel Lin Senior Officer Award, the RADM Kenneth Moritsugu Junior Officer Award, and the CAPT Allan Lock Service Award. These awards have been developed to promote the future leadership of Asian Pacific Americans in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) by honoring members of the Corps or equivalent Department of Health and Human Services civil service professionals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the Nation’s health.
Nominations must include the following:
(1) Short narrative that describes the following three items (in 500 words or less):
  • The nominee’s contribution to the advancement of the Nation’s public health (the nomination should address the impact of the nominee's work);

  • The leadership of the nominee in the work being cited (e.g., providing vision or direction; developing an innovative approach; initiating significant activities; pursuing ongoing professional development; mentoring; etc.); and

  • Involvement of the nominee in health-related professional or community activities.
(2) Current curriculum vitae of nominee.
The nomination documents must be submitted online as attachments to an e-mail sent to the APAOC Awards and Recognition Subcommittee Chair (see below for contact information). Incomplete applications will not be considered. Nominations will be accepted through 6 March 2010. The awards will be presented in San Diego at the 2010 USPHS Scientific and Training Symposium.
The RADM Samuel Lin Award is open to senior officers O-5 and above, the RADM Kenneth Moritsugu Award is open to officers O-4 and below, and the CAPT Allan Lock Award is open to current or past voting members of APAOC.  Current APAOC voting members are not eligible for the RADM Samuel Lin Award and RADM Kenneth Moritsugu Award.  Nominations may come from a supervisor, professional colleague, or anyone who through a professional working relationship can attest to the impact of the nominee’s contribution to the advancement of public health. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
