The Acting Surgeon General, RADM Steven Galson, is pleased to announce the selection of the next Chief Professional Officers (CPOs) for the Scientist and Environmental Health Officer categories:

CAPT Sharon Williams-Fleetwood, Ph.D., is CPO (select) Scientist Category, assigned to the Division of Health Assessments and Consultation, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR); she serves as the Deputy Director of the Division. Her previous assignments were as Acting Division Director and Branch Chief, Superfund Site Assessment Branch, at ATSDR. Her tenure as CPO begins 1 August 2009.

CAPT Michael Welch, REHS, MSEH, is CPO (select) Environmental Health Officer Category, assigned to the Phoenix Area Office, Indian Health Service IHS); he serves as the Acting Associate Area Director, Office of Environmental Health and Engineering. His previous assignment was as the Director, Division of Environmental Health Services, Phoenix Area Office, IHS. His tenure as CPO begins 1 November 2009.

RADM Helena Mishoe and CAPT Craig Shepherd will continue in their roles as CPOs of the Scientist Category and Environmental Health Officer Category, respectively, until their 4-year terms have been completed. A more formal recognition of their outstanding service to the Corps will be forthcoming.
