Call for Nominations - Asian Pacific American Officers Committee
Deadline Date:  31 July 2009

The Asian Pacific American Officers Committee (APAOC) is seeking motivated officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) to serve a 3-year voting membership term beginning January 2010. It is a great opportunity for leadership development. Members who previously served as voting members of APAOC are encouraged to self-nominate for a second term (and earn their second SAR ribbon).

The mission of APAOC is to facilitate the communication of minority related and professional development issues between the Office of the Surgeon General and Corps officers among the various Operating Divisions and Staff Divisions (OPDIVs/STAFFDIVs) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the non-HHS organizations to which Corps officers are assigned. The APAOC especially aims to promote and encourage these objectives among Asian Pacific American Officers and HHS civil service health professionals.

APAOC currently meets every other month; travel is not required for membership, as conference calling is available. Regular attendance at meetings is required. APAOC voting members are expected to actively participate in APAOC activities to include chairing subcommittees or task forces throughout the term of service.

APAOC will recommend successful candidates to the Surgeon General for a 3-year appointment, with the concurrence of the line supervisors and HHS OPDIV/STAFFDIV representatives. Officers are encouraged to self-nominate using the online application at http://www.usphs-apaoc.org.
