The Pharmacist Professional Advisory Committee (PharmPAC) is an advisory group composed of pharmacists representing Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Operating Divisions (OPDIVs) and those non-HHS organizations to which officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) are assigned as well as HHS civil service pharmacists.
The PharmPAC provides advice and consultation to the Surgeon General and to the Pharmacist Chief Professional Officer on issues related to both the professional practice of pharmacy and the personnel activities of Corps and HHS civil service pharmacists. The PharmPAC meets at least monthly in the Rockville, Maryland area. However, teleconferencing is available.
Nominations are being solicited from pharmacists who are interested in serving on the PharmPAC as voting members and Associate non-voting members. Anticipated openings for the 2009-2012 term are listed below, but all nominations will be kept on file for future consideration. Junior officers are encouraged to apply.
Openings for 3-year terms beginning 1 November 2009 for pharmacists serving in the following organizations include:
PharmPAC Members (voting):
Food and Drug Administration – 4 openings and
Bureau of Prisons – 1 opening
PharmPAC Associate Members (non-voting):
The PharmPAC has created new opportunities for more pharmacist involvement by redesigning membership. Beginning with the November 2009 term, the PharmPAC is inviting pharmacists in OPDIVs/non-HHS organizations represented by the Ex-minimus PAC voting members (OPDIVs/non-HHS organizations with fewer than 30 Corps pharmacists) to serve as Associate members. Associate members are from OPDIVs/non-HHS organizations not currently represented by a PharmPAC voting member for a 3-year term beginning 1 November 2009. There is one opening in each of the following OPDIVs/non-HHS organizations for HHS pharmacists:
Program Support Center
Department of Defense/TRICARE Management Agency
National Institutes of Health
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Office of the Secretary
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
