Division of Commissioned Corps Assignments (DCCA) Announcement

Submitted by CAPT Joyce Prince, USPHS, Director, Division of Commissioned Corps Assignments, Office of Commissioned Corps Operations

The Division of Commissioned Corps Assignments (DCCA) is pleased to announce our revised team leadership and streamlined team structure. We value the team approach to providing services and believe this type of collaborative structure will continue to allow DCCA to assist in meeting the Transformation goals of making the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) bigger and better.

In December 2007, DCCA in the Office of Commissioned Corps Operations (OCCO) launched its newly created team structure consisting of four (4) Career and Assignment Manager Teams, one (1) Physical Qualifications Team, and one (1) Suitability/Security Team. We ended last year dual processing transactions for well over 600 new calls to active duty and thousands of other personnel transactions. We assisted in meeting the Secretary’s goal of making the Corps bigger and better by processing transactions which resulted in the highest Corps growth in over ten (10) years. This monumental achievement equates to processing hundreds of applicants; processing over 400 cases for security, suitability, and Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (HSPD-12) requirements; and reviewing files for medical clearance for well over 600 applicants. In analyzing last year’s performance, DCCA staff developed a strategy to improve our current structure and identified critical elements to advance the overall infrastructure. Our goal is to provide quality services to our customers in a timely manner. We evaluated methods to improve operational efficiency, such as identification and standardization of critical processes, and methods to advance equitable distribution of the workload.

Effective 2 February 2009, DCCA launched a revised overall team structure with leadership for four (4) teams, instead of the current six (6) team structure. The DCCA four (4) team structures are organized as follows:
