Announcing the New and Improved Web Site for the Health Services Category!
The Health Services (HS) category Web site has a new look! This project, begun in the fall of 2006 and launched in April 2007, represented a large effort on the part of 13 HS officers to develop, implement, and manage the new HS category Web site. Over 300 Web pages were created or updated by HS officers in concert with the Web site workgroup for content accuracy and consistency before being added to the redesigned HS category Web site. Since April 2007, the site has had over 19,500 visitors. Currently the Web site is in a maintenance phase and we continue to update the site.

In redesigning the HS category Web site, it was important to be responsive to the needs of the 850 officers of multiple professional disciplines serving in various locations, including the United States, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa. In addition, the Web site workgroup had to collaborate with the nine Professional Advisory Groups (PAGs): Basic and Applied Science, Dental Hygiene, Health Administration, Information Technology, Medical Technologist, Optometry, Physician Assistant, Psychology, and Social Work. A standard template was designed to create uniformity of format and content and shared with the team members. In addition, Web site members were assigned to work with specific PAGs to update their Web pages.

The site provides excellent career enhancement for entry, middle, and senior level officers. It also provides recruitment services for officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) and those interested in joining the Corps. We have included detailed information on the HS Associate Recruiter program, an extremely active and successful program with recruiters assigned to each of the nine HS PAGs. Having up-to-date and readily available information on the Web site for the HS Associate Recruiter program assists with hiring qualified candidates into the Corps. The site also contains information on the ever changing Corps readiness standards and Transformation updates. Due to the volume of current information on the HS category Web site, members of the other Corps categories also rely on this Web site for timely and useful career information.

Congratulations to the following members who participated as part of the Web site rewrite project team. The outstanding efforts of these individuals led to the successful implementation of the new HS category Web site. The members in bold are continuing their service to the Web site.

It is impossible to acknowledge everyone who contributed content updates to the Web site workgroup, specifically many HS Professional Advisory Committee and PAG members, since all 300 pages were reviewed and edited before posting. The efforts of everyone who contributed and who continue to send us their updates are greatly appreciated.

We invite you to review the site and send your suggested updates to the content team: LCDR Helen Hunter (hh173r@NIH.GOV) and LT Carlos Bell (izz3@CDC.GOV). They will edit the content for grammatical correctness and consistency with the format of the Web site, and then forward it to the technical team to post.
