Last Call for Officers to Complete the Independent Officer Training Course (IOTC)
Portion of the Basic Officer Training Course
Deadline Date: 31 August 2009
This message is for those officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) who previously attended the Basic Officer Training Course (BOTC) and did not complete the Independent Officer Training Course (IOTC) module of this basic program. The Division of Commissioned Corps Training and Career Development is looking to retire these training components and assist those officers who started the program to complete the requirements for the Commissioned Corps Training Ribbon (CCTR).

Corps officers who previously attended a BOTC and did not complete the IOTC portion will have until 31 August 2009 to complete the IOTC module to satisfy the training requirements for the training ribbon. Any of those officers who do not complete the IOTC module by the cut-off date will have to enroll in the new Transitional Officer Basic Course (TOBC) when it is established later this year. Please note that a Corps basic program will be a pre-requisite for the follow-on program, the Officer Intermediate Course.

Officers who have not completed a Corps basic program and do not fall into this category will have the opportunity to enroll in the TOBC later this year. The TOBC is designed to address the fundamental elements necessary for officers to satisfy the requirements for the CCTR.

Corps officers who are eligible to complete the IOTC module should send an e-mail to PHSIOTC@hhs.gov and provide their first and last name, BOTC completion date, along with the city and State of attendance. If your last name has changed since attendance, please let us know.
