Medical Affairs Branch - Arrival of the New Nurse Review Officer
Submitted by Mr. Russell J. Garisto, Chief, Medical Affairs Branch
Effective 20 August 2007, I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Sally Bentsi-Enchill is the Nurse Review Officer of the Medical Affairs Branch (MAB), Office of Commissioned Corps Support Services, Program Support Center. Mrs. Bentsi-Enchill’s primary duties include tracking and digitizing health records, supervising the work of contract support, and providing leadership and expertise needed to optimize the operational, inspection, and mission readiness of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service.

Mrs. Bentsi-Enchill previously held a position as the Charge Nurse for the Allergy and Immunization Clinic at the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC), Bethesda, MD. She is a graduate of the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Ghana (Dip) and the Northern Virginia Community College (AAS), and is currently with George Mason University (MSN student). She is board certified in medical-surgical nursing, and also certified in allergy/immunology.

Mrs. Bentsi-Enchill started her nursing career at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C., in surgical critical care, and continued in many specialties of nursing ranging from cardio-thoracic critical care, general surgery, pediatrics, and ambulatory nursing. Her last 18½ years of nursing were at the NNMC, including 9½ years of outpatient allergy/immunization nursing, where she served as the Clinic Manager and Charge Nurse. Mrs. Bentsi-Enchill stayed clinically active at NNMC through both the Gulf and Iraqi Wars with acute staff shortages due to active duty deployments and increased patient census, to support the NNMC’s outstanding mission. She is flexible and very dedicated to her profession.

During her tenure at NNMC, she was privileged to be selected to review the nursing practices in allergy/immunology at the Office of the Attending Physician on Capitol Hill and the Medical Unit at the White House resulting in a training CD (compact disc) put together by the Allergist and herself, for the White House Medical Unit and outlying Military Treatment Facilities where allergy patients are cared for while receiving immunotherapy. She also conducted training sessions to the allergy/immunology staff at these facilities.

When selected for this position, Mrs. Bentsi-Enchill stated “Knowing the fragile nature of our world today and the crucial role played by our uniformed service officers in these disastrous situations as they arise, I will give my best to support the readiness mission for the uniformed service members, through the Medical Affairs Branch. I believe in cohesive teamwork; and have always maintained that approach at any place that I have been privileged to work, and hope to become an integral member of the superbly professional MAB team!”

Ms. Bentsi-Enchill brings a wealth of knowledge to the MAB and is truly a welcomed addition to our team of healthcare professionals.
