Happy 212th Anniversary to the Creation of the Marine Hospital Fund
Leading to the Eventual Creation of the
Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps).
The Corps as we know it today grew out a law that was initially established by the 5th Congress and signed into law on 16 July 1798 by President John Adams -- the Act for the Relief of Sick and Disabled Seaman (see http://history.nih.gov/research/downloads/1StatL605.pdf).
