Physician Professional Advisory Committee Membership
Call for Nominations
Deadline Date: 15 August 2008

The Physician Professional Advisory Committee (PPAC) is seeking motivated officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) and civil service physicians who are interested in serving as members on this advisory panel. PPAC membership is open to all physicians who are employed in Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Operating Divisions (OPDIVs) and Staff Divisions (STAFFDIVs) as well as Corps officers in the Medical category who are detailed to non-HHS organizations.

The mission of the PPAC is to provide advice and consultation to the Surgeon General on issues related to the professional practice and the personnel activities of the Medical category. Additionally, the PPAC seeks to represent a cross section of the activities and interests of all HHS physicians. The PPAC currently meets every other month. Travel is not required for membership, and conference calling capability is available for all meetings. Regular attendance at meetings is required, and PPAC members are expected to actively participate in the activities of at least one subcommittee during the 3-year term of service.

At least four (4) full-voting membership positions will be available as of 1 January 2009. The PPAC will recommend successful candidates to the Surgeon General for a 3-year appointment, with the concurrence of the line supervisors and OPDIV/STAFFDIV/non-HHS organization representatives.

Corps officers or civil service physicians who are interested are encouraged to self-nominate. Individuals should submit their curriculum vitae along with a one-page cover letter describing their interest in this position. This should be accompanied by a letter from the candidate’s supervisor concurring with the nomination. These documents should be sent as a Word attachment to an e-mail message by 15 August 2008 to the following address:
