The detailed agenda for the 2008 USPHS Scientific and Training Symposium is available

will be held 9-12 June 2008 in Tucson, AZ, and the early
bird registration deadline is 21 April 2008.
Highlights of the Symposium include:
- Plenary sessions on the new National Response Framework; emerging global health
threats; the evolving role of the Indian Health Service; and an exploration of the
links between basic public health care and disaster preparedness.
- A keynote address by the Acting Surgeon General, RADM Steven Galson, USPHS.
- More than 40 concurrent track sessions addressing a wide range of topics including
access to care; rebuilding the health care system in Iraq; patient safety during emergency response; telemedicine; improving access to chronic care; rural health
care challenges; preparing for clinical work in less developed countries; understanding
the public health role in mass fatality management; strengthening tribal preparedness
efforts; trans-border health care; and much more.
- Six hands-on pre-conference workshops addressing critical training needs including
the fundamentals of leadership, cultural competency in deployment situations; and
bio-ethics issues related to pandemic influenza.
