Important Information Regarding Required Uniforms
Officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) are reminded to maintain the minimum required uniforms as stipulated in CC26.3.4, “Uniforms for Male Officers,” (dcp.psc.gov/eccis/documents/CCPM26_3_4.pdf) CC26.3.5, “Uniforms for Female Officers,” (dcp.psc.gov/eccis/documents/CCPM26_3_5.pdf) or as directed by the Office of the Surgeon General’s (OSG) Office of Force Readiness and Deployment (OFRD) for a deployment.

Uniform shops and official online uniform sources, i.e., the Navy Exchange (NEX) and/or the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) will do what they can to expeditiously process orders. OFRD has an online checklist of items that should be included in an officer’s mobility or deployment go-bag, as well as items not allowed on a deployment (http://ccrf.hhs.gov/ccrf/faq_gobag.htm). The Surgeon General is the National Uniform Authority for deployments, and uniform requirements or other mission-related information and/or guidance is provided by OSG/OFRD.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q:  Now that the many skill badges and other service ribbons or medals are authorized can I start wearing them now?
A:  No, as it is the responsibility of the officer to (re)submit a copy of his/her Certificate of Discharge or Release from Active Duty (DD-214), Amendment to the Certificate of Discharge or Release from Active Duty (DD-215), or other supporting documentation to the Commissioned Corps Awards Coordinator (CCAC) in the Office of Commissioned Corps Operations for entry into the officer’s electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF) prior to authorization for wear. The CCAC will not automatically go back through eOPFs and add the awards already documented on previously submitted DD-214s, DD-215s, or other documentation. The CCAC will submit a new awards authorization memorandum into the officer’s eOPF which will authorize the new awards until the current computer system is reconfigured with new codes to appear in the Promotion Information Report (PIR).

Q:  With the new policy on ribbons coming out, does this mean association ribbons are no longer authorized for wear?
A:  Association ribbons are only authorized for wear while attending meetings, conferences or other association related activities. Routine daily wear of association ribbons is no longer authorized.
