Veterinary Professional Advisory Committee Membership - Call for Nominations
Deadline Date:  21 September 2007
The Veterinary Professional Advisory Committee (Vet PAC) is seeking motivated veterinarian officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) civil service veterinarians who are interested in serving as members on this committee.

The Vet PAC provides advice and consultation to the Veterinary Chief Professional Officer (CPO), who provides information to the Surgeon General on matters relating to professional activities and personnel issues affecting veterinarians. Members represent a diverse cross-section of Corps and civil service veterinarians within the Department's Operating Divisions (OPDIVs), Staff Divisions (STAFFDIVs), and non-HHS organizations to which Corps officers are assigned.

Each year, self-nominations are sought to fill vacancies due to expiring terms. There will be seven vacancies for 2-year term appointments beginning 1 January 2008. Members are elected by balloting by the entire Veterinary category. Officers may serve a maximum of three terms (6 years) during their Corps careers. The Veterinary CPO will recommend successful candidates to the Surgeon General for appointment with the concurrence of line supervisors and OPDIV/STAFFDIV/non-HHS organization representatives. The Vet PAC will meet 6-12 times annually by Web cast. Regular attendance at the meetings is expected throughout the term of membership.

Most activities conducted by the Vet PAC fall under one of six Subcommittees: Awards; Career Development; Meetings (professional meeting planning); Readiness; Recruitment and Retention; and Web site. Vet PAC members are expected to actively participate in the activities of at least one Subcommittee during their term of service.

Interested Corps or HHS civil service veterinarians are encouraged to self-nominate by obtaining supervisory concurrence and submitting a current curriculum vitae and letter of interest via e-mail no later than 21 September 2007 to CAPT Dan O’Leary at doleary@cdc.gov.
