Division of Commissioned Corps Officer Support (DCCOS) Travel and Transportation Reminder: Temporary Storage |
Officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) are authorized 90 days storage in transit (temporary storage) for authorized household goods (HHGs) transportation during permanent change of station (PCS). If HHGs are not removed from storage before expiration of the first 90-day period, storage charges accruing thereafter are the officer’s responsibility unless additional storage is authorized. |
When, because of conditions beyond the member’s control, the HHGs in temporary storage at Government expense cannot be withdrawn during the first 90 days, additional storage for not more than an additional 90 days may be authorized. The officer must submit a memorandum (see memorandum example at http://dcp.psc.gov/Travel/extension.asp) requesting an extension. Among the reasons that additional storage may be authorized are: serious illness of the officer or dependent; impending assignment to Government-controlled quarters; directed temporary duty assignment (TDY) after arrival at permanent duty station (PDS); non-availability of suitable civilian housing; awaiting completion of residence under construction; and acts of God. |
The memorandum must contain a statement of all the facts including the date the HHGs were placed into temporary storage and the number of additional storage days (up to 90) being sought. The officer must forward the request through his/her Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Operating Division (OPDIV/Staff Division (STAFFDIV) or non-HHS organization Budget Director and through the OPDIV/STAFFDIV/non-HHS organization Commissioned Corps Liaison. |
All requests should be submitted at least 30 days prior to the end of the initial 90 days temporary storage period. Please send the signed and approved memorandum to: |
