Agenda Announced and Registration Open for
Commissioned Officers Foundation Conference


Registration is now open for the 2010 USPHS Scientific and Training Symposium. Junior Officer scholarship applications also are available (to cover the cost of registration fees only). Visit www.phscofevents.org to register.

The program committee also has announced highlights of the conference agenda including:

  • An opening day panel that is expected to include the three Department of Defense Surgeons General, moderated by the newly-appointed Surgeon General of the U.S. Public Health Service, VADM Regina Benjamin. Dr. Howard K. Koh, Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has been invited to deliver the opening keynote. Dr. Mary Wakefield, Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, will deliver the Wednesday keynote and RADM Scott Deitchman will close the conference with a talk on Leadership: Lessons from the Arts.

  • Several pre-session activities will be held on Sunday, 23 May, to include “A Day with the Office of Commissioned Corps Operations (OCCO), Office of Commissioned Corps Force Management (OCCFM), and Transformation.”

  • More than 40 track sessions will again be offered in the areas of: Promoting Healthy Behaviors; Improving Public Health Infrastructure; Preventing and Treating Chronic Disease; Expanding Access to Preventive Care and Quality Health Services; and Addressing the Rising Needs of Mental Health Disorders.

  • Tuesday will be Category Day with each of the 11 categories meeting individually. Details on the Category Day agendas are available on the Symposium Web site.

  • Continuing education credits will be available for all categories.
