Haitian American Repatriation Mission

Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida, USA

On 25 January 2010, two medical strike teams, consisting of 12 officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (two Physicians; two Physician Assistants; and eight Nurses) and 12 Disaster Medical Assistant Team (DMAT) Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT)-Paramedics and 1 DMAT Pharmacist, answered the call in providing medical support for approximately 50,000 American citizens currently being repatriated from the ravaged country of Haiti due to the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake.

The mission is to provide medical support by medical screening/triage of passengers and subsequently rendering on-site treatment for medical stabilization and local hospital transfer through a coordinated effort with the local Miami-Dade County Emergency Medical Services (EMS). More than 3,000 repatriated American citizens were processed through this station in the first week of operation, and the mission is expected to continue for several weeks.

This mission is made possible by successful participation by U.S. Customs Border Protection, Florida Emergency Support Function-8, the American Red Cross, and Homestead Air Reserve Base personnel.

EMT-Paramedics: Hoban, Hart, Torres, Lewis, Clark, Cottingham, Gattis, Curry, Richardson, Reyes, Minica, and Lagarde.
