The 2023 recipient of the JOAG Excellence Award is LCDR Scott Steffen!

LCDR Scott Steffen, PhD, CQIA, CQI

LCDR Scott Steffen obtained his BS and doctoral degrees in Biochemistry from the Pennsylvania State University and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School for Public Health, respectively. He then completed a post-doctoral fellowship studying enzymatic mechanisms of various Ebola proteins at Fort Detrick. Afterwards, he held various research positions investigating potential cancer targets and vaccine candidates at three different biotech companies. From 2008-2020, he served as a microbiology/sterility reviewer and/or Team Lead for either the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) or Center for Devices and Radiological Health performing over 300 sterility assurance reviews of Premarket Applications. Since 2020, he has been a Senior Program Management Officer with the All Hazards Readiness Response & Cybersecurity (ARC) team serving in various lead roles during the Center’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Ethylene Oxide efforts, while serving also as the Center’s point of contact for device-related healthcare-associated infections. LCDR Steffen holds two certifications as a Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Inspector from the American Society of Quality.
