CDC Pharmacy Student Experiential Program

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a federal health agency based in Atlanta, GA, and one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services.

The CDC Pharmacy Student Experiential Program, or PSEP, is administered by volunteer pharmacists and staff within CDC and is designed to provide a unique Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) opportunity for students.  Students can expect to acquire a general understanding of CDC’s mission and public health priorities, and learn about the roles pharmacists have within CDC or initiatives that dually impact public health and pharmacy practice. Students may take advantage of the many public health lectures and seminars that are presented at CDC during their rotation.  There are several rotation sites within CDC that select students from the annual pool of PSEP applicants, and this list changes frequently as we continually seek to expand the number of active sites and preceptors.

Current Rotation Sites

  • Drug Service
  • Office of Regulatory Affairs
  • Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention
  • Division of Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention
  • Birth Defects Branch
  • Office of Antimicrobial Stewardship

Due to the increasing amount of interest from pharmacy students all over the country, PSEP accepts applications each year beginning around September, with a deadline of Jan 1st.  At this time, CDC PSEP is only able to accept a limited number of applications from each school of pharmacy, and only for students completing an APPE elective rotation.  Therefore, students who are interested in applying are encouraged to contact their school’s experiential office directly for more specific instructions.
