Promotion Information Report (PIR)

 What is the PIR?

  • An internal document from Office of Commissioned Corps Operations (OCCO)
  • It reflects specific “real-time” information as documented in OCCO’s data system
  • It is a succinct summary of verified data about an Officer at a given point in time

 Where is the PIR located?

  • The PIR is located in the green section of your eOPF

 What is in the PIR?

  • General dates concerning your career
  • Current billet title and equivalent grade
  • Creditable service towards retirement (including military and creditable civil service in the PHS)
  • PHS/military awards authorized for wear on the uniform
  • COER ratings for the last 5 years
  • PHS assignment history
  • Assimilation application date and effective date

What if I find errors in the PIR?

  • Submit a copy of your PIR to OCCO
  • Request the changes in writing, substantiated with appropriate documentation, e.g. copy of personnel orders, award certificates, etc.
  • Changes cannot be made without official documentation
  • Do not submit changes to information not reflected in the PIR
  • Address to submit changes to:
    • Office of Commissioned Corps Operations

                     ATTN: PIR Coordinator/DCCOS

                     1101 Wootton Parkway

                     Plaza Level, Suite 100

                     Rockville, MD  20852

What else should I know about the PIR?

  • The PIR for the PHS may differ from the Officer Information Summary (OIS) used by other agencies
  • OCCO does not currently update the OIS so be sure you are reviewing the PIR before you submit changes
  • Officers who have prior military service are strongly encouraged to verify that the military service time on the PIR is correct, as prior military service is a factor in determining your total time in service to the PHS
