1. Why is this event occurring?
While the United States Public Health Service origins dates to 1798, it wasn’t until July 1, 1943, that the PHS Nurse Category was formally established with passage of the Nurse Training Act, also known as the Bolton Act (Public Law No. 74). Subsequently on July 1st, 1944, the Public Health Service Act was approved, which authorized the appointment of qualified nurses as Commissioned Officers. In honor of this history, the Nurse Category in collaboration with the PHS Commissioned Officers Foundation will be hosting a recognition formal gala to honor and celebrate our visionary pioneers and share how the USPHS nursing is now transforming the future of tomorrow.
