The Commissioned Corps Healthcare Administrators are encouraged to associate themselves with organizations listed below. The affiliation with such organization(s) will bring global awareness of the health care arena as well as bring exposure to new developments in the health care profession.  In addition, these organizations offer memberships and several levels of certifications that are beneficial to one’s career. Officers are encouraged to explore the listed organizations below:

  1. American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) - The ACHE is an international professional society of 30,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. The ACHE is known for its prestigious credentialing and educational programs and its annual Congress on Healthcare Leadership, which draws more than 4,000 participants each year. ACHE is also known for its journals, the Journal of Healthcare Management and Frontiers of Health Services Management and its magazine, Healthcare Executive, as well as ground-breaking research and career development and public policy programs.   2. American Academy of Medical Administrators (AAMA) - AAMA was founded in 1957, AAMA is an association of multi-disciplinary healthcare management at all levels, within all types of health organizations.  The AAMA’s mission is to advance Academy members and the field of healthcare management, and to promote excellence and integrity in healthcare delivery and leadership.   3. Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) - MGMA started as a small network of clinic managers, called the National Association of Clinic Managers, which met for the first time in Madison, Wis., in 1926. The association's name was changed to the Medical Group Management Association in 1963 to reflect the diverse management roles found in group practice.

    MGMA is the nation's principal voice for the medical group practice profession serves.  The MGMA’s 20,000 members lead and manage more than 12,000 organizations in which more than 242,000 physicians practice. Its diverse membership comprises administrators, CEOs, physicians in management, board members, office manager and many other management professionals.   4. The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) - HIMSS is the healthcare industry's membership organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of healthcare information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare. Founded in 1961 with offices in Chicago, Washington D.C., Brussels, and other locations across the United States and Europe, HIMSS represents more than 20,000 individual members and over 300 corporate members that collectively represent organizations employing millions of people. HIMSS frames and leads healthcare public policy and industry practices through its advocacy, educational and professional development initiatives designed to promote information and management systems contributions to ensuring quality patient care.   5. Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) - Established by Congress in 1972, and graduating its first class in 1980, USU has a worldwide reputation as a center of excellence for military and emergency health professions education and research.  USU’s programs are unique, related to force health protection, military medicine, tropical diseases, disaster medicine, military medical readiness and adaptation to extreme environments.   6. The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) - CEPH is an independent agency recognized by the US Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and certain public health programs offered in settings other than schools of public health. These schools and programs prepare students for entry into careers in public health. The primary professional degree offered is the Master of Public Health (MPH) but other masters and doctoral degrees are offered as well. Phone:  (202)789-1050.

  7. The Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) - CAHME, an interdisciplinary group of educational, professional, clinical, and commercial organizations devoted to accountability and quality improvement in the education of health care management and administration professionals, was formed in 2004.

    CAHME promotes, evaluates, and improves the quality of graduate healthcare management education in the United States and Canada. Through their partnership with the academe and the field of practice, CAHME serves universities and programs in a voluntary peer review process as a means to continuously improve graduate education. In doing so, CAHME accreditation has become the benchmark by which students and employers determine the integrity of healthcare management education and establishes the standard of measurement for the world community.   8. National Capital Healthcare Executives (NCHE) - The NCHE is an organization of professional healthcare executives from the National Capital region. It was originally founded in 1961 and includes over 350 healthcare executives who represent a wide variety of healthcare institutions including hospitals, health agencies, foundations, consulting firms, military and other federal and state government agencies, and related private organizations.  NCHE is an officially designated Healthcare Executive Group of the ACHE.

  9. American Public Health Association (APHA) - The APHA is the oldest and largest organization of public health professionals in the world, representing more than 50,000 members from over 50 occupations of public health. 
    • APHA brings together researchers, health service providers, administrators, teachers, and other health workers in a unique, multidisciplinary environment of professional exchange, study, and action.
    • APHA is concerned with a broad set of issues affecting personal and environmental health, including federal and state funding for health programs, pollution control, programs and policies related to chronic and infectious diseases, a smoke-free society, and professional education in public health.

  10. The Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) - Established in 1953 to facilitate communication among the leadership of schools, ASPH has gradually assumed a variety of functions, including:
    • providing a focus and a platform for the enhancement of existing and emerging academic public health programs;
    • working with various agencies of the federal government on projects aimed at strengthening public health education and the public health profession;
    • assisting its member schools in the development and coordination of national health policies;
    • serving as an information center for governmental and private groups and individuals whose concerns overlap those of higher education for public health; and,
    • assisting in meeting national goals of disease prevention and health promotion.
