2023 BASIC AND APPLIED SCIENCES JUNIOR and SENIOR OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT

The Basic and Applied Sciences Professional Advisory Group (BASPAG) is seeking nominations for the “Basic and Applied Sciences Junior and Senior Officer of the Year Award”.  This award was developed to acknowledge both United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Junior (O2-O4) and Senior (O5-O6) Officers who are members of the Health Services Category, with a concentration in scientific disciplines such as the biological sciences, epidemiology, health sciences, mathematical sciences, and physical sciences. The nominee should have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the Nation's health, demonstrated leadership in their work and the USPHS, and show involvement in health-related professional or community organizations or activities.

Completed nomination packages must be submitted no later than Wednesday, March 15, 2023 by 4:00 pm EST.  Incomplete award nomination packets and self-nominations will not be considered.  Nominations may come from a supervisor, professional colleague, or anyone who through a professional working relationship can attest to the impact of the nominee's contributions to the advancement of public health. Current BASPAG Voting Members are not eligible for the duration of their term.

Nomination packet must include all of the following to be considered complete:

1. Nominee’s current curriculum vitae (CV) and CV summary sheet (per current year HSO guidelines)
2. Nomination cover sheet form
3. Narrative, not to exceed two pages (Times New Roman, font size 12, 1-inch margins), that describes:

1. 1. The nominee's contributions and impact to the advancement of the nation's health. Nominations should address the impact of the work and the role of the nominee in the Basic and Applied Sciences.
   2. The nominee’s contributions in local and/or community health.
   3. The leadership roles of the nominee as an employee and an Officer (e.g., providing vision or direction; involvement in health-related and professional and/or community organizations, developing an innovative approach; initiating significant activities; pursuing ongoing professional development; mentoring; contributions to BASPAG; etc.)

4. Photograph of the nominee in uniform with face clearly visible (.jpg or .pdf)
