About SciPAC
The Scientist Professional Advisory Committee (SciPAC) represents the Scientist Officers within the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. The SciPAC provides advice and consultation to the Office of the Surgeon General and to the Chief Scientist Officer on professional and personnel issues that impact Scientist Officers. In addition, the SciPAC functions in a resource and advisory capacity to Scientist Officers.
The SciPAC governing body is the Executive Board, which is composed of the Chair, Vice Chair, Executive Secretary, and COF (Commissioned Officers Foundation) Liaison. The duties of the Executive Board are to provide leadership that ensures timely completion of SciPAC responsibilities and to recommend strategies and actions that address issues affecting the professional careers of Scientist Officers.
The SciPAC is comprised of 20 voting members, which include the Executive Board. Voting members represent a cross-section of the disciplines, interests, concerns and responsibilities of scientific professionals in Agencies, Operating Divisions, and Programs that are staffed by U.S. Public Health Service personnel. Voting members are expected to chair or co-chair one of SciPAC’s 11 subcommittees.
The SciPAC conducts General Meetings on the first Tuesday of each month from 1200–1300 Eastern Time. Meeting dates, call-in information, and meeting minutes are available on the Meetings and Minutes page. All Scientist Officers are welcome and encouraged to attend these monthly meetings. Attending the monthly meeting is a great way to learn about SciPAC activities and current Commissioned Corps issues that impact Scientist Officers.
Officers interested in learning more about the SciPAC are encouraged to read a Brief History of the USPHS and the Scientist Category as well as the SciPAC Charter and SciPAC Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
All Scientist Officers are encouraged to subscribe to the Scientist Category Listserv. The listserv is the primary mechanism for communicating information relevant to Scientist Officers and disseminating announcements about SciPAC activities.
