HS Professional Advisory Committee
The Health Services Professional Advisory Committee (HSPAC) is comprised of 20 health services professionals who serve for 3-year terms. The HSPAC operates based on a Charter and Bylaws of written rules and procedures. Additionally, the HSPAC provides advice and consultation to the Surgeon General and the Chief Professional Officer on issues related to professional practice and personnel activities of the Health Services category of the Commissioned Corps.
HSPAC members are chosen from various agencies and organizations in which HSOs serve. The HSPAC members represent a cross-section of the concerns, interests, and responsibilities of all HSOs. The HSPAC has nine permanent subcommittees: Awards, Career Development, Communications, Events, Membership, Mentoring, Policy, Readiness, Recruitment and Retention. The HSPAC subcommittees address a variety of topics such as special pay and allowances, appointment standards, career development, mentoring, the Associate Recruiter Program, the HSPAC Home Page and the HSPAC Listserv. These subcommittees are chaired by HSPAC members; however, all HSOs are encouraged to participate, and anyone can volunteer to assist on any subcommittee (except Membership).
The HSPAC welcomes volunteers! Officers may contact any HSPAC member to become involved. In addition, the HSPAC has formed a number of HSO Professional Advisory Groups (PAGs) to address discipline-specific issues. At this writing, there are PAGs for Basic and Applied Science, Dental Hygiene, Health Administration, Information Technology, Medical Technology, Optometry,Physician Assistant, Psychology, and Social Work.
