Introduction:

Welcome to the Commissioned Corps Health Services Officers’ Call to Active Duty Transitional Mentoring Initiative (CADTMI). The purpose of the CADTMI program is to pair a new HSO with an experienced HSO (mentor) to form an interactive and committed partnership for the new HSO’s first year in the Commissioned Corps.  The mentor serves as a guide to the officer newly called to active duty, providing timely and relevant information, support, and assistance, making the transition into active duty as smooth as possible.   To start the process, scroll down for instructions on how to enroll:

Program Topics:

Mentors are required to meet with mentees on a monthly basis. The list below contains suggested topics that mentors and mentees can discuss during their monthly meetings.

Month 1 Reporting-in – Leave requests and policy; telework requests and policy; uniforms; military courtesy; health care; join listservs
Month 2 Review eOPF – Review for boarding errors like retirement or pay credit, T&E, wrong degree or category; discuss various sections of eOPF and PIR
Month 3 Promotion 101 – Calculate promotion eligibility; promotion preparation; online resources; benchmarks; OS/ROS (if applicable)
Month 4 Workplace relationships – Officer/supervisor; officer/colleagues; doing your job first, then Corps activities; challenges in the workplace; agency culture
Month 5 Career planning – Promotion benchmarks; online resources; mobility; long-term perspective; CV (HSO and civilian) development
Month 6 Readiness and deployment – Maintaining basic readiness; Direct Access; not related to promotion; responsibility to team vs. duty station; tier/team and role options; practical advice when deployed
Month 7 Awards – Supervisor awareness; types of awards and recognition (PHS, agency, PAC, PAG, etc.); how to write a narrative; online resources
Month 8 Officership and leadership – Difference between officer and civil servant; officership on-duty and off-duty; military courtesy; leadership training (job and PHS)
Month 9 Validate sources of information; Rumor control (i.e. PHS Policies) 
Month 10 Support systems and networking – JOAG; COA membership and chapter activity; PAG involvement; HS PAC meetings; family; USPHS Scientific and Training Symposium
Month 11 COER – What it really is; writing the officer section; good/bad ratings
Month 12 Close-out – Hot topics from Mentee; transition to regular Mentoring Program
