Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service

Health Services Officer Professional Advisory Committee

Welcome to the Commissioned Corps Health Services Officers Peer to Peer (P2P) Mentoring Program. The HSO P2P Mentoring Program encourages fellowship among HSOs of the same rank who are navigating similar career paths, interests, and aspirations.  Peer mentoring provides a co‐learning environment to discuss career development and officership opportunities while enhancing work-life harmony, and self-confidence and awareness. This peer space also provides an opportunity to make a difference in the life of another officer, improves connection and community, and helps lowers PHS anxiety.

The HSO P2P Mentoring Program is a one-year program and you can enroll at any time using the process described below. Matches are made based on criteria and factors selected by officers. (P2P tries to honor officers top preferences when pairing).

Mentoring is specifically mentioned in our promotion benchmarks under the officership promotion precept. In addition, there is a specific section on mentoring in our standardized promotion CV where you can include involvement in Official Category Mentoring Programs like P2P.

To Enroll

If you are interested in having that one-on-one peer mentor to journey, P2P is for you! Only requirement is to connect at least quarterly with your peer.

Enrollment is easy--complete the enrollment form and email a copy to P2P.HSPAC@gmail.com.

New applicants to the HSO P2P Mentoring Program are matched on a monthly basis. Once matched, you will receive a welcome letter to connect with your peer along with a detailed topics list to guide your discussions (Be sure to upload this Match Letter to your eOPF under Document Type “Appointment” so it will appear in your OPF Section “PHS Support Activities Documents). At any time, you can request a rematch by reaching out to P2P.HSPAC@gmail.com.

You will also be invited to quarterly “Open Forum Sessions ” which provide officers the opportunity to freely ask questions and engage in open dialogue.  Open Forum Session recordings can be found on the HSPAC Webinar Repository under "Career Development Webinars".  In 2022, our 3rd quarter Open Forum Session focused on promotion preparation and is listed as a resource on the HSPAC Career Development’s CP2G Toolkit webpage.  P2P looks forward to supporting all HS Officers in their career endeavors.

The P2P Program will issue an annual certificate of appreciation to all participants who have been actively engaged (participants are asked to engage at least quarterly) and have completed the end of year evaluation survey sent at their one-year mark (upload certificate into your eOPF under the Certificates of Appreciation section, so it will appear in your OPF Section “PHS Support Activities Documents”).  You are not required to re-enroll in the mentoring program annually. If you want to keep your current match you can. If you would like to change your match please email: P2P.HSPAC@gmail.com.

For any questions, please reach out to P2P.HSPAC@gmail.com.
