Administrative Management
Chair: LCDR Kimberly Bissohong
Subgroup Objective: To manage the voting members nomination and selection process, and maintain the PHPAG listserv and official membership roster.
Awards
Chair: LCDR Kimberly Goodwin
Subgroup Objective: Provide written procedures for the Public Health Professional Advisory Group (PHPAG) Awards subgroup on the following: 1) organizational and structural guidance to manage and facilitate the subgroup; 2) detailed guidelines for reviewing, nominating, and issuing the PHPAG award(s); and 3) organize, structure, and manage award nomination packages.
Communications
Chair: CDR Lindsay Hatch
Subgroup Objective: Ensure effective dissemination of information within the PHPAG and with external entities. Information sharing includes: 1.) disseminating all PHPAG-related information via the listserv and to HSPAC, 2.) updating the PHPAG section of the HSPAC website, and 3.) updating the brochure as needed. The subgroup aims to increase the visibility of the PHPAG by developing and distributing marketing materials such as the weekly newsletter, end of year newsletter, brochure, PHPAG coin, and the new HSPAC Calendar.
Data & Evaluation
Chair: CDR Gerald Brozyna
Subgroup Objective: Work with the HITPAG and PAC Data Analytics Subcommittee to develop, disseminate, and analyze surveys and other data from the PHPAG. This information will be used to inform PHPAG activities and tell the story of the PHPAG.
Education, Training & Mentorship
Chair: LCDR Tchernavia Gregory
Subgroup Objective: Support the discipline-specific continuing education, training and mentoring needs of public health officers to remain current in their discipline (including health promotion/health education, epidemiology, global health, and generalist)
Policy
Chair: LCDR Ayana Stanley
Subgroup Objective: Manage the development and implementation of PHPAG SOPs and provides recommendations to the HSPAC on policies, needs, and concerns that affect PHPAG disciplines. Policy also aims to serve as a resource for public health policy related information through webinars and other available opportunities.
Recruitment & Retention
Chair: CAPT Antoinette Percy-Laurry
Subgroup Objective: Annually participate in recruitment efforts to attract eligible PHS officers to PHPAG and master’s level public health students with the best combination of skills and attributes to the Commissioned Corps. The subgroup also works on cross-collaboration activities that support the retention of officers.
Stakeholder and Community Engagement
Chair: LCDR Valerie Albrecht
Subgroup Objective: Responsible for managing public health related activities within the community and fostering relationships with professional organizations of interest to the PHPAG membership. This year, the committee will focus on creating processes and tools to track community activities and engaging key public health professional organizations and MPH colleges and universities.
Technical Readiness
Chair: LCDR Denise Duran
Subgroup Objective: Serve as the primary source of discipline-specific information and training on USPHS response and deployment roles for the PHPAG. The PHPAG Technical Readiness Subgroup promotes and ensures discipline specific technical readiness for deployments to PHPAG Officers by strengthening the quality and performance of PHPAG Officers in the field, including overseeing the submission and review of the new and completed HSPAC Advance Readiness Program's (ARP) applications.
PHPAG Public Health Teams
Epidemiology Collaboration (EpiC)
Lead: CAPT Julie Erb-Alvarez and CDR Lazenia Harris
Team Objective: To provide resources and guidance to support Health Service Officers who either work as epidemiologists or are interested in epidemiology to develop and enhance their career within the Commissioned Corps; provide Health Service Officers with resources, guidance, and support in the field of epidemiology; promote relationships between Commissioned Corps Officers across professional disciplines who are working as epidemiologists and/or are interested in epidemiology; identify epidemiology resources across professional disciplines; share professional information and educational opportunities for growth and development; support skills maintenance and development; and provide career support.
Generalist
Lead: CDR Christopher Lim and CDR Karina Aguilar
Team Objective: To promote career enhancement opportunities in “generalist” or MPH interdisciplinary topics, and core MPH competencies that apply to all public health teams. (Public Health Practice, Research, Theory, Management/Policy, Communication, Education, Informatics, Diversity and Culture, Leadership, Professionalism, Program Planning, Public Health Biology, and Systems Thinking).
Global Health
Leads: CDR Alyson Rose-Wood and LCDR Felicia Warren
Team Objective: To provide global health resources and professional development opportunities to Public Health Service officers in order to increase the capacity of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps in global health.
Health Promotion Health Education
Team Objective: To identify and promote educational and professional licensure opportunities for officers to advance their careers and gain new/additional qualifications. This team also provides information and presentations on effective health promotion techniques and provides opportunities to promote healthy lifestyles in the community.
