The 2011 National Conference on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) Historic Times, Extraordinary Solutions was held on October 15-19, 2011 at Baltimore Convention Center, Baltimore, Maryland. The conference was attended by health care professionals from county, state and federal corrections.

The goal of the conference was to present the most up to date and useful information in the correctional health care field. Various presentations focused on the best practices in administration, infectious disease, special populations, legal issues, oral health and professional development.

  • During the 5 day event, a total of 108 education sessions were presented including 9 pre-conference seminars and 99 conference lectures.

  • A 32 Category 1 continuing education credits may be earned by the conference attendees.

  • 3 educational conference lectures were presented by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

    1. Leveraging Correctional Health Care Through Interdisciplinary Governing Board presented by Federal Bureau of Prison Central Office executive leaders including RADM Newton Kendig, Ms. Stephanie Hollembaek, CDR Judith Sutcliffe and LT Tracey Coleman-Rawlinson.

    2. The 2 other medical educational lectures were given by Federal Correctional Complex Butner Health Services staff.

      1. Introduction to Inmate Diabetes Management presented by CDR Robin Hunter-Buskey and LT Teresa Stenmark.

      2. Current Oncology Practice in the Federal Correctional Setting presented by CDR Josef Rivero.

There were also 22 poster presentations displayed during the conference.

Multiple Drug Resistant Tuberculosis in a Federal Detention Center: Extensive Interagency Contact Investigation was presented by LT Sherri Wheeler and Sarah Bur of Federal Bureau of Prisons.

A roundtable discussion on Multiple Drug Resistant Tuberculosis in a Federal Detention Center was moderated by Sarah Bur.

Congratulations to all correctional professionals that participated in the 2011 National Conference on Correctional Health Care. The conference was well organized, informative and provided outstanding networking opportunities.
