MyPlate, a simple reminder for healthy eating. On June 2, 2011, First Lady Michelle Obama, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, and Surgeon General Regina Benjamin launched MyPlate icon as a new reminder to help consumers to make healthier food choices. MyPlate is a new generation icon to make healthy food consumption.

VADM Benjamin mentioned the icon is easy to understand and emphasizes fruits and vegetables encouraging Americans to be healthy and fit.


The Public Health Reports (PHR) is the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Public Health Service official Journal and one of the Nation’s oldest public health publications.

It is a resource that more Corps officers should contribute to and help guide. CAPT Jan Huy is currently acting PHR editor.
VADM Regina Benjamin The Affordable Care Act called for the creation of the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council (National Prevention Council). Chaired by U.S. Surgeon General, VADM Regina Benjamin, the National Prevention Council consists of 17 Federal government executive leaders committed to promoting prevention and wellness. Under the leadership of VADM Benjamin, the National Prevention Council released the National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy  June 16, 2011.

The new and historical Strategy, an inaugural national level approach to prevention, was presented in the Great Hall of the Hubert H. Humphrey Building in Washington, DC, by VADM Benjamin joined by government and community leaders...

May 21, 2011, marked the date, a beautiful day in Washington, DC at the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). Four services were represented with our own Deputy Surgeon General Boris Lushniak, Army Surgeon General Eric B. Schoomaker, Navy medical officer to the Marine Corps Michael H. Anderson, Air Force Surgeon General Charles B. Green. Together, with the accompaniment of the President’s Own, the Marine Corps Band, they welcomed 167 School of Medicine graduates awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and promoted to the rank of 0-3, lieutenant or captain in their respective services, 60 Graduate School of Nursing graduates who earned advanced practice nursing degrees and 39 Masters and Doctor of Philosophy graduates...
