General Call to Active Duty: Beginning on 1 October 2013, the Division of Commissioned Corps Personnel and Readiness (DCCPR) will open the new application process to specific disciplines. The disciplines include physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Interested candidates should monitor the USPHS website at www.usphs.gov for specific timeframes to begin the application process. The new process redesign will emphasize quality and the value of a ‘commission’. All new applicants will use a new Learning Management System (LMS) tool that will enhance communication with applicants and provide valuable Corps-specific information early in the application process. This exciting new tool will help improve applicant’s understanding of the various steps in the application process. Qualified applicants will also be interviewed as part of the commissioning process. Please visit www.usphs.gov or our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/USPHS for the most current information and updates.

JRCOSTEP: This program allows students to gain valuable professional experience with the Commissioned Corps early in their education. Currently we are taking applications for the following disciplines: Engineers, Environmental Health and Pharmacy. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an accredited baccalaureate or graduate program. JRCOSTEP assignments are located throughout the country and participants work during their official academic breaks (usually during the summer months) for periods of 31 to 90 days. JRCOSTEP participants do not have an obligation to serve in the Commissioned Corps after graduation. Students hold the rank of Ensign (01) during the program. If you know someone who would be interested in this opportunity encourage them to contact the Corps’ call center at 1-800-279-1605 or go to www.usphs.gov for more information. Individuals interested in this opportunity must initiate the application process by 29 November 2013 for assignments during the summer of 2014.

SRCOSTEP: This is a competitive program designed to assist students financially during their final academic year of professional health care training. In return, these students agree to work for the Commissioned Corps after graduation for twice the time sponsored. The program is currently taking applications for students enrolled full time in an accredited program in the following areas of study: Medical Laboratory Scientist, Nurse, Nurse Practitioner (if already possess a BSN then not eligible for program), Pharmacy, Physical Therapist and Physician Assistant. SRCOSTEPs hold the rank of Ensign (01) during the program. If you know someone who would be interested in this opportunity encourage them to contact the Corps’ call center at 1-800-279-1605 or go to www.usphs.gov for more information. Individuals interested in this opportunity must initiate the application process by 13 December 2013.
